Do you style your hair?
I do it nearly every day. I don’t mean only some fancy styles and updos. Blow-drying with a round brush is a type of styling too.
It is a fact that most of us reach for heated styling devices regularly because we want to look good and take control of unruly strands. I’m sure you also can’t do without a dryer or flat-iron during your daily routine. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as you remember about one thing.
Do you know…
Heat destroys our hair. That’s a huge problem because styling the hair without heat won’t give us the same effects as doing it with a dryer, flat-iron, curler or hot rollers.
Hair protection during a heat styling routine
I have some good news! We can prevent thermal damage by using proper heat protectants:
- hair oils, e.g. argan oil
- strengthening hair masks and conditioners
- styling creams and mousses
- thermal protection sprays
Personally, I’m a fan of sprays because they’re the easiest way to protect the hair against heat – we simply spray them on dry or wet hair and style as usual. Done!
Best Heat Protectant Sprays for Hair
Given what I’ve just written, I’m happy to present my round-up of the best thermal protection sprays for heat styling.
Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray
I’ve tested many sprays for heat styling. Nanoil is the one which swept me off my feet and is a staple in my hair care kit. This weightless hair mist smells amazing and envelopes the hair protecting it for many hours. Because it’s rich in silk proteins, it has a strengthening and repairing effect too. Naturally, its protective properties are the most important – it ensures shield against 430 degrees and UV rays. 100% protection from hair damage. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray also leaves the hair easy to manage, smooths it, and stops frizz and static. Styling is quicker, easier and much safer with it.

Kemon AND 13 Heat Spray
Kemon’s spray is another item on my list. Just like Nanoil, it also ensures protection against high temperatures emitted by styling devices like dryers or flat-iron. This product is enriched with antioxidants and natural UV filters so it guarantees full protection. Kemon AND 13 Heat Spray is non-overburdening but I can’t say it adds volume. Surely it prevents frizz and tames unruly strands, plus delivers shine making the hair look better. Too bad the product doesn’t have any nutrients or repairing substances.
Balmain Thermal Protection Spray
I think Balmain’s spray deserves to be listed among the best heat protection products. It is one of the most costly heat styling sprays but I like it for the lovely bottle and light consistency. The pink-colored, runny product has an amazing aroma and two powerful ingredients: silk proteins and pro-vitamin B5. Thanks to that, it has a softening, hydrating and strengthening effect, plus guards from heat. It’s designed for all hair types but I think it won’t manage to handle extremely unruly hair.
OUAI Heat Protection Spray
There’s one product I used in the past and recommend, but now it’s harder to find it. It is unavailable on many websites I’ve been to so I’m afraid it’s no longer on the market. I might be wrong though. When it comes to the effects, it’s really cool. The brand made sure it’s lightweight and easy to use. OUAI Heat Protection Spray effectively guards from thermal damage no matter if it’s used on dry or wet hair. It also delivers hold so we can enjoy curls or big hair volume for longer.
Schwarzkopf OSIS+ Flatliner Spray
If you think that the above products cost too much, then here’s a more budget option. Just note that a lower price means less efficient product and worse effects. Schwarzkopf OSIS+ Flatliner Spray is a thermal protection serum for straightening. It prevents loss of moisture and damage while styling, and upgrades the effects, for example making a flat-iron give you enhanced smoothness. It contains protective polymers, hydrating glycerin and a few more components, but given the price, we shouldn’t count on some miraculous ingredients.
Philip B. Thermal Protection Spray
And the last spray in the round-up – Philip B. Thermal Protection Spray. I tried this elegant product a few months ago at my bestie’s. It has an easy-to-use applicator and light consistency which doesn’t overload the hair. It ensures protection against heat and the sun. Philip B. Thermal Protection Spray is also a great beautifying product. It’s rich in botanical extracts and oils (among others, mongongo oil, almond oil, burdock extract) and amino acids.
Which one will you pick?
I’m curious if you like products from my reviews. You know my number one – it’s Nanoil from the top of the ranking. Let me know what you’re using or planning to use while heat styling.
Looking forward to your comments!
