There are legends surrounding castor oil and its properties. I’m not going to be another blogger who repeats myths about it. I’m going to tell you only the facts. What are hair benefits of castor oil? How to use it so it doesn’t weigh your hair down? How to make castor oil easier to apply? Read on to find out!

Magic of Castor Oil

It is the cheapest hair oil you will get at any drugstore. Another great asset – super efficiency. Its primary function was treating stomach problems but now the thick and colorless formula is a must beauty product for women around the world. You can use castor oil for acne-prone skin because it amazingly moisturises, purifies, reduces irritation and infections. It is far more popular as an ingredient of hair products or a separate cosmetic.

What Are Castor Oil Hair Benefits?

I use it during almost every hair wash when I remember. I always rub it into the scalp and try spreading on hair. Thanks to the regular application, castor oil works as a good natural conditioner:

  • adds softness and makes hair delicate,
  • intensifies the natural hair shine,
  • cares for the scalp, eliminating e.g. dandruff,
  • reinforces hair bulbs thus holds back thinning,
  • brilliantly boosts hair growth.

How to Use Castor Oil in Hair Care?

Those who have never used castor oil have one question ‘How to apply it to hair?’ There are lots of methods but I focus on the ones I use. You will decide if castor oil is better to be applied solo or in combination with other substances. My ideas for using castor oil in hair care routine.

  1. You can apply castor oil to hair without any extra products yet preferably to damp hair. Take a bit of the oil, rub it between wet palms and massage into scalp. I don’t recommend spreading castor oil to hair throughout its length as it can weigh strands down and be hard to wash off. After applying the oil to scalp, leave it in for an hour, two or overnight. Next, wash hair as usual.
  2. Castor oil can be mixed with liquid paraffin and egg yolk. Such a home hair growth mask is easy to make. Beat the yolk (source of vitamins and minerals) in a bowl, add a teaspoon of castor oil and a tablespoon of liquid paraffin (delivers elasticity and strength). It is enough to apply the DIY product for 15 minutes and wash off with a shampoo. I advise washing hair twice to remove all leftovers.
