A hairbrush is an object that we reach for at least twice a day. Do you remember to clean it regularly? This is an extremely important thing and you should never forget to do that. Otherwise, your hairbrush will become a stronghold for bacteria, dead cells and dust. You don’t want that, do you? By reading on you’ll learn how I keep my hairbrush clean and why it must be washed on a regular basis.
Why and how often to clean a hairbrush?
You should do that at least once a week. Make it a habit and do it every Sunday, for example. Researchers from the US have found that an average hairbrush has more bacteria than a dog’s bowl or a washbasin! To me this sounds unbelievable. A dirty brush is a stronghold for bacteria and hairs but also dead cells, dust and product buildup. It may even lead to psoriasis, dandruff, hair getting oily very fast, and scalp eczema. If you’re struggling with one of the problems, a hairbrush bath may turn out to be a remedy!
How to clean a hairbrush?
Follow five simple steps.
- Firstly, take all hairs out of the brush. Use your hands and then a toothpick if necessary. Other brush or comb may be useful too.
- Dampen the brush with warm, not hot, water.
- Get to thorough washing! Use your shampoo or a regular soap.
- Rinse the brush using warm water and don’t use it until it’s dry.
- Finally, use a disinfecting product like spirit, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil or hydrogen peroxide – this way you destroy the bacteria and fungi that might have been left out.
Treat your hairbrush to a spa once a month!
To upgrade the cleaning, use a shaving cream and baking soda. Before dampening the brush, apply some shaving cream to effectively soften the dirt. Use baking-soda-and-shampoo mixture for washing the brush. The effect will be better for sure!
