Facial Serum: Most Frequently Asked Questions Answered
How should you use a face serum?
First of all, do it regularly, preferably every day. Some people say serum should be used just twice a week but it proves not enough in an age of air pollution, busy and stressful life. So, if you want to enhance your skin, use serum every day or even twice a day if your skin is in bad shape.
I use face serum. Do I need a moisturizer too?
Naturally! A moisturizer or face cream matters hugely because it forms a protective coating on the skin holding the serum inside. Always remember to apply it after serum.
What type of face serum works best?
To me, there’s no better and more multi-purpose skincare ingredient than vitamin C: it brightens and smooths the face, delivering radiance and even skin tone. It helps reduce wrinkles and get rid of hyperpigmentation and other types of imperfections. Vitamin C maintains natural pH and optimal amount of water inside the skin, plus boasts revitalizing properties. It works for skin no matter the age or type.
Is there just one vitamin C form? What kind of vitamin C should you choose?
The “original” vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is unstable, easily oxidized and consequently ineffective. We have different forms of it because there have been many attempts to stabilize it. After many failed attempts, we’re finally presented with the best stable type of vitamin C known as Ethyl Ascorbic Acid.
THE BEST VITAMIN C FACE SERUMS – MY ROUNDUP
Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum
I like it because: it contains the best form of vitamin C and exceptional extract from the Punarnava plant.
This serum works best and fastest. I used it. My mom, sister and best friend used it too. We’re all in love with the vitamin C serum by Nanoil. Infused with Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, it works brilliantly and quickly handles all kinds of skin issues: dullness, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, enlarged pores, dryness, zits and pigmentation spots. It has a perfect texture too: not too runny (it won’t dry out the face) and not too greasy (it won’t leave a sticky feel or congest the skin). The serum is smooth so using it definitely makes the skincare routine nicer. Bonus: a big bottle of the serum costs a very reasonable price. Plus we get a superb extra ingredient, Punanrnava extract – an extremely effective antioxidant which wipes off signs of aging and enhances the skin tone. The coolest addition to vitamin C!

Paula’s Choice Resist C15 Super Booster
I like it because: though it contains the unstable, pure vitamin C, it has a proper concentration of it plus extra skin-enhancing ingredients.
This very serum with 15% vitamin C used to be my number one. Now I use other serums with a more effective form of vitamin C but the Paula’s Choice Resist C15 Super Booster was once my favorite which helped me a lot. Though it contains unstable ascorbic acid, it boasts the proper pH which makes the vitamin more stable, keeping it from breaking down. Beyond that, this serum gives us a boost of vitamin of youth – vitamin E – and ferulic acid, hyaluronic acid, and antiaging peptides. The Paula’s Choice Resist C15 Super Booster is light-textured, pleasant to apply and… pricey.
Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum
I like it because: it’s a cool nourishing and nice-to-use serum abounding in fruit extracts (too bad it holds only 5% ascorbic acid).
The low concentration of vitamin C in the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum doesn’t mean poor effects. Not at all! It’s a strongly-working nourishing product – a great choice as the first vitamin C serum for young skin. Based on plants, light-textured, fantastic for use in the summer. Among others, it’s rich in extracts from anise, grapefruit, peony, Baikal skullcap, rhubarb, plus a potent antioxidant, that is tea leaf extract. The Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum gives a smooth, rested-looking face.
Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum
I like it because: it combines three acids (ascorbic, hyaluronic, ferulic) with vitamin E.
For a quite high price, we get great components, many natural substances and cool plant extracts, for example from pumpkin and pomegranate. The Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum lasts long, sinks in quickly and makes a superb make-up primer (no product pilling). The face is smooth, firm and radiant. The product smells nice. It’s recommended for mature skin because of ferulic acid in the formula. It exfoliates dead cells, brightens the face and evens the skin tone, acting as an antioxidant which prevents wrinkles.
