Choosing the right brow pencil depends on many factors, such as your eyebrow color, skin tone, or preferred effect. I have some tips for you to help you make the right choice 🙂
- Match the shade: the eyebrow pencil you choose must be close to your natural brow color. If you have blonde eyebrows, it is advisable to choose a pencil of a softer shade, and in the case of darker eyebrows – a more intense color will do the job. The main thing is not to create an overdrawn effect 😉
- Pay attention to your skin tone: fair skin requires a brow pencil of a lighter shade so that the effect does not come out too strong. For darker skin, you can choose pencils of more intense shades.
- Try different formulas: eyebrow pencils are available in different formulas, for example, the beauty market offers waxy, hard, or soft pencils. Hard eyebrow pencils can precisely fill in the brows, while soft or wax pencils will add volume to the arches. Try and choose the one that suits your needs best!
- Check the durability: are you looking for an eyebrow pencil that won’t smudge during the day? Pay attention to its durability. Choose a long-wear or waterproof eyebrow pencil to prevent smudging.

Additionally, I apply some eyebrow gel on top of it to make sure that my evening makeup doesn’t get smudged. It’s very expensive, so I’d rather not use it for everyday wear. This is a huge minus for this brow pencil!

This vegan brow-styling pencil is long-wear and smudge-proof. Unfortunately, I am put off by its price, as it costs a fortune, so I reach for it rarely. Overall, it does a good job of creating natural eyebrow makeup. This brow-defining pencil is not easy to use, it’s hard to wash off, so if I make a mistake, I get really frustrated… It’s hard to style and fix the shape of the eyebrows with it if something goes wrong.

For me, it is way too strong, but it works well for special occasions 🙂 The tip is meant to allow you to dispense the right amount of pigment, as the manufacturer assures, but it is always too much for me. You have to be really skilled! This retractable eyebrow pencil is waterproof, so it doesn’t smudge during the day. It dries quickly, so it’s really hard to do touch-ups if something goes wrong.

A precise brow makeup pencil you have to spend a little on... I’ve used it for a while, so I know it works well for different brow looks. It is retractable, defines the brows precisely, and comes in subtle shades. This recommended brow-styling pencil works mostly for everyday wear, as it smudged on my brows more than once. This is a big downside for me, as for special occasions I much prefer to choose a different product. I have to put some effort into drawing precise lines with it, so I prefer more intuitive pencils 🙂

6. KVD BEAUTY SIGNATURE BROW

It has a brush-type tip, so you can blend the color nicely and create a personalized look 🙂 This waterproof eyebrow pencil works well for me, especially for special occasions, as it may be too strong for everyday wear. You can find it at a good price. It’s not easy to build up the coverage with this pencil though. I have to put in some effort, for example, if I want my makeup not to be strong. Unfortunately, this eyebrow pencil is not very efficient… besides, the tip tends to break easily. If you are looking for a really efficient brow pencil, this one definitely won’t do.

Eyebrow pencil step by step – defining and filling in the eyebrows
Is defining eyebrows with a brow pencil difficult? I believe it is one of the easiest ways to improve the shape and appearance of your eyebrows 🙂 How to fill in the eyebrows with a pencil step by step? Check out my tutorial!
- I prep my eyebrows: first I make sure my eyebrows are clean and dry. Long brows can be brushed out with a spoolie.
- I use natural motions: I start from the inner brow edge and use short, gentle motions using the pencil to imitate natural brow hairs. I fill in the eyebrows following the direction of hair growth and try to keep the strokes as fine as possible.
- I adjust the shape of my eyebrows: I have gaps and sparse areas in my eyebrows, so I gently fill them in with the pencil, applying the color evenly. I try not to apply too much product in one place to avoid an overdrawn effect.
- I brush my eyebrows: after applying the pencil, I brush through my brows to evenly apply the chosen shade and give my brows a natural look. Luckily, some eyebrow pencils come with a built-in brush 🙂 It’s super convenient!
- It’s time for touch-ups: if I need to improve the shape of my eyebrows or fix any mistakes, I use a wet cotton pad or the tip of a pencil to gently blur the lines.
Most importantly, it’s better to start gently and subtly build up the coverage to avoid too dark, fake-looking brows. Practice can definitely make you the master 🙂 All you need is a little practice, and defining your eyebrows with a pencil should not cause you any difficulties.
