I don’t know your preferences, but my favourite skin beautifying treatment is the application of scrub. Removing dead epidermis cells is an incredible way of improving skin condition, doing massage and making yourself relaxed. I love homemade body scrubs because I can create them either from what I currently have in my cupboards or what is growing in my garden. However, I adore salt and sugar body scrubs the most. How to prepare and use them? What are the effects they deliver?

Scrub, also called epidermis exfoliation, body polishing, abrasion or ablation, is a beauty and dermatology treatment that depends on removing dead skin cells. There are a few types of scrub. Due to a particular method we distinguish mechanical, chemical and physical exfoliation. When taking into consideration the depth of the treatment, we distinguish 4 digress of the exfoliant penetration (e.g. superficial or deep). Body scrub is also used for various skin smoothing treatments. Such product may contain either abrasive particles or plant extracts.

Sugar or salt body scrub?

To be honest, I don’t favour one type of body scrub over another – I use both kinds equally often. After all, both of them work similarly, which means that they remove dead epidermis cells, smooth skin, help fighting back skin imperfections and clean skin pores. Naturally, there are some differences in the action both product deliver. And this depends on the base features of the cosmetics.

SALT SCRUB

The tiny salt particles serve most skin types really well because they exfoliate dead epidermis cells gently. However, it’s possible to enhance the action of salt peeling by taking advantage of various salt types or using more strength in rubbing the skin. Moreover, salt massage stimulates work of lymphatic vessels helping us fighting back cellulite, for example. Apart from that, this beauty treatment makes skin fresh, invigorates and counteracts excessive sebum production. Moreover, salt displays anti-inflammatory action, however, if used inappropriately, it might significantly damage epidermis. It may also happen that people having couperose skin type might experience skin irritations if salt peeling is used too often.

SUGAR SCRUB

This type of scrub works similarly to salt scrub, yet it’s more delicate. I’d recommend it to people whose skin is sensitive, dry and mature. Sugar scrub improves the circulation of blood to skin, moisturises and helps it regenerate. Circular frictions can help relax and soothe after a hard day of work. One of the biggest advantages of exfoliating skin due to sugar scrub is that this treatment doesn’t cause any discomfort nor irritations when epidermis is damaged. Besides, due to fractions and warmth sugar melts and doesn’t leave any sticky layers on skin.

Salt and sugar scrub – components

As I’ve mentioned this before, I tend to use various kinds of sugar and salt to prepare my homemade body scrubs. No matter the size of grains, all products work well on my skin. In most cases, I go either for a regular white sugar or brown sugar. I like sea salt, Himalayan and rock salt. Naturally, I enrich my DIY body scrubs with ingredients that facilitate massaging and display skin conditioning properties. My favourite ones are: honey, yoghurt, oat flakes, lemon juice, essential oils, vegetable oils, bits and pieces of fruit, dried flowers, seasoning, chocolate and many other tasty and fragrant products.
